THIS ITEM HAS BEEN SOLD. This quilt in primarily black and red bears the face of an African woman, a caregiver. It is part of the "Faces From my Heart" collection, first exhibited at International Quilt Festival in Houston, 2009. Completed size is 37" wide by 49 1/2" high. Sleeve on the back makes hanging easy. The photo-transfer face on this quilt comes from Mary Fisher's collection of African photographs. An inner border of bead trim frames the face of this caregiver. The artist statement is as follows: I've had others as well. "My President" (Gerald R. Ford), who I served in the White House. My mother, who shows grace under every pressure. But this woman stands alone. She rose from abuse to independence through courage and imagination. She fended off every form of judgmentalism. And she said, "I will serve others, and make a difference, so help me God." So help her, please, God.
