"She's an Orphan" SOLD

THIS PIECE IS SOLD This quilt, from the "Faces from my Heart" Collection, is on fabric printed and dyed by Mary Fisher. The face of this orphan is photo-transferred onto fabric of blues, golds and black. The border  of pinkish red has a golden yellow binding. Completed size is 39 1/4" wide by 44 1/4" high.  Sleeve on the back makes hanging easy. This quilt bears the face of an orphan photographed by Mary Fisher in Africa.  The inner border is framed with bead trim. The artist statement is as follows: We think of them as distant and dirty, if we think of them at all.  In fact, they are like our own children when we call them in from play. What's different is that we protect our children from all things harmful; she and her fellow orphans are safe from nothing that will prey on them:  hatred, hunger, disease, rape, greed.  An orphan does not lack simply parents: she lacks everything needed to live.
