This quilt, in reds and forest greens with a golden border, is part of the "Faces from my Heart" exhibit first shown in 2009 in Houston at the International Quilt Festival. The photo-transferred face of this lovely caregiver comes from Mary Fisher's personal collection of African photographs. Finished size is 38 3/4" wide by 45 1/2" high. There is a sleeve on the back for hanging. Mary Fisher creates her own fabrics using wood-cuts and lino-cuts on cotton. Her machine and hand embellishment create a unique look for each quilt. The artist statement for this quilt is as follows: Pilgrims on the road to AIDS know the highest respect and deepest veneration is reserved for those called "caregivers." They are everywhere but rarely noticed because they command no fanfare, seek no public adulation, ask nothing for themselves. From hovels to hospices, they pour out care as if it came from their own life blood. Indeed, it does. The shed their lives to bring comfort to others.
